I grew up gay, and the youngest child of 7 in a straight white catholic family. My father was a former Franciscan Monk before marrying my mother and I started to challenge their idea of "Normal" at a very young age. I knew it would be a challenge staying true to myself with the constant hearing that everything I did, said, acted and enjoyed...was wrong. Being a biological male, my femininity is not acceptable. I knew I had to stay true to myself while combating the voice of No in my head. Creativity was my outlet growling up and while attending FIT after High School I finally felt like I found my place. I loved images from fashion and saw them as so powerful that I developed my own painting style based on images I saw in magazines. Images of strength, power, intimidation and still remaining so beautiful. I didn't realize at the time but my style is an extension of my personality that gave me permission to be me. That my femininity is my strength.
