Yo Mama (after Prentice Powell)

Yo mama so poor, she holds down 3 jobs just to hold up the family.

Yo mama so poor, she turns 10 dollars worth of food into 11 days worth of feeding.

Yo mama so black, her womb is a holy blackness,

Yo mama so black, she's trying not to birth anymore chalk outlines.

Yo mama so black, she doesn't know time management

and it rubbed off on her kids

now they late to everything but somehow always early to the grave.

Your mama so crazy, she looks like she is in a straight jacket.

Your mama so black, hugging herself is the closest thing she knows to love.

She still trying to find that silver-lining between loving her self and hating her reflection.

Yo mother so mama sometimes she gotta be daddy.

Yo mama was born a Leo but feels like a Cancer with this chemo running

through her blood but she trying to keep the lion alive inside of her.

Yo mama so crazy, her eyes look like 2 shooting stars, wishing a mother fucker would try her.

Yo mama so black, her scalp looks like the soil of Africa,

her spine stands like the pyramids of Egypt,

and her eyes tell history like hieroglyphics etched onto stone tablets.

Your mama so black, she learned alchemy and turned a steel man into gold

just to remind him of how valuable he is.

Yo mama so magic, I see why God blessed her with the skin of the universe.

Yo mama so loud, she protests in silence because she knows her skin speaks languages her tongue can not articulate.

Yo mama so protective

so righteous

so tough

so survivor

so honest

I see why she yo mama.

Yo mama so strong, but forget to let her be vulnerable!

We forget that just like Atlas carrying the world on your shoulders can at times be a burden.

You see black women have made history but only get mentions in the footnotes.

We say women are magic but they are more than just a trick.
