Goodbye 2020

2020, what can I say about you? You were… exhausting, tough, and unpredictable. I mean was it really 365 days? You felt like a decade within a year. Brush fires, an impeachment attempt, Kobe and that was just the first month. I'm not going to even get to Big Rona. Just craziness. I could continue to drag on but you were exactly the kick in the butt I needed. I didn't know it at the time but you force me to look at myself. I mean really look at everything.

You forced me to slow down, which allowed me to take stock of my life. I had managed to convince myself that I was happy before you came along. You. Yes, you decided to barge in with uninvited guests. Your friends' anxiety and depression decided to kick it with us. Boy was that fun. Y’all ran around my house as if it was an amusement park. Bouncing from ride to ride, sucking up all of my energy leaving me a soulless husk. Abandoning me once they saw they pillaged my emotions. An empty vessel I sat alone with my thoughts. The time I spent by myself was eye opening. Again unknowingly you gave me what I needed.

Peace. Clarity. Family. Friendships.  A sense of purpose. You re-introduced me to my old friends. You made sure that we hashed out our differences and really got to the root of our problems. With the extra time you allowed us to build. You made sure that I understood how we could thrive through adversity.

I want to say thank you. Thank you for stopping the world in the middle of the episode.Thank you for showing me what I am capable of. Thank you for opening my eyes to what it’s most important to me. Thank you for allowing me to mend fences. Thank you for allowing me to become who I am now so that I can embrace the spirit of 2021.  2020 you brought me headache and happiness. Even though I am glad to see you go I can’t help but think that you were just the beginning of a new chapter.
