In the series, I decided to depicted women of color without using actual human skin tones.

I did this as a sort of joke, imagining what the white narrative of being “colorless” sees when they look at women of color. Instead of seeing brown, do they see blue? Or orange? Or green? They still treat us as if we’re different, so what do they gain by not seeing our blackness?

If you don’t see our color, you’re ignoring us and the fact that society does see us as “colored people”. That even if you decided to not acknowledge our black and brownness, our culture, society will systematically remind us everyday of it via oppression, racism, and white Supremacy.
