Custody Battle

Our annual Juneteenth Poetry Slam is a competition and creative outlet for spoken word poets from underserved backgrounds from all over the country to express themselves for the chance to win cash prizes and trophies. This event celebrates Juneteenth and the intersectionalities of the Black experience. This event is a part of a larger festival known as the Shades of Pride Festival that celebrates the black, queer experience and pay homage to the black queer voices that fought and continue to fight for the liberation of black and brown people. Charles Hines

Charles will say, "Writing is the only thing he knows how to do."  He spent a lot of money majoring in English at the University of Central Florida but feels words are in his blood; always finding a way to call his name. He has been slamming for years but writing for longer. His poetry has taken him everywhere from: Los Angeles, to Chicago, to Miami. He sees writing as a place for expression and making space for those the world has left out. His first poetry book Heart Feelings is available on Amazon.
